A Life Transformed through the power of Jesus

Megan's Story

For many years, addiction gripped her life, leading to repeated stays in jail—what she often referred to as “extended stay.” While jail was never where she hoped to be, it became the place where God met her. Looking back, she believes the Lord used that difficult season not only to preserve her life physically but to rescue her soul for eternity.

In 2022, while awaiting sentencing, she surrendered her life to Jesus Christ. She wasn’t seeking temporary relief—she longed for true freedom. She immersed herself in Scripture, attended every Bible study and church service available, and joined Celebrate Recovery. It was there, while still incarcerated, that she met Theresa Biggs. Drawn to Theresa’s testimony and heart for others, she began meeting with her regularly. Through God’s grace and consistent mentorship, she started confronting past wounds and laying her burdens at Jesus’ feet. Week by week, the Lord brought healing where there had once only been pain.

After her release, she immediately reconnected with Theresa and began attending Abba’s House and Celebrate Recovery. Surrounded by a supportive church family, she experienced encouragement and accountability. However, while still learning to walk in freedom, she relapsed after a relationship in her life turned back to substance use, resulting in another incarceration.

This time, the consequences were serious. Having violated years of probation and facing a new charge, she was confronted with the possibility of prison. In that season, she chose full surrender. She devoted herself again to prayer, worship, and Bible study, asking for God’s will above all else. Her faith deepened daily, and she began leading Bible studies in her pod, ultimately having the privilege of leading three women to Christ—proof to her that God can redeem even a jail cell for His glory.

During personal Bible study, Joshua 3 became especially meaningful to her—the story of the priests stepping into the flooded Jordan River before God made a way. She sensed the Lord urging her to trust Him and take a step of faith. Soon after, she faced a decision: accept a seven-year sentence for probation revocation or proceed to a sentencing hearing and trust God with the outcome. Choosing faith, she stepped forward.

At her hearing, Theresa shared part of her testimony and advocated for Recovery Court. She also spoke honestly about her need for accountability and help. After 16 months of prayer and perseverance, she was granted Recovery Court instead of prison.

Upon release, she began rebuilding from the ground up. With assistance from Theresa and Exodus Chattanooga, she received help with rent at a sober living home, providing the stability she needed to secure employment. She began working at Chick-fil-A as a Team Leader and has since advanced into management. She regained her driver’s license, purchased a car, and now has a home of her own.

Today, she lives with a peace and joy she once believed were impossible. Her journey has required daily surrender, perseverance, and reliance on the community God placed around her. Through it all, Jesus has remained faithful, and she gives Him all the praise and glory.
